SONGS OF THE HEART
are the sweetest music of all...

Spotlights crisscrossed the stage, focusing on a tall, caped figure at the center of the raised platform. Geoff pulled the microphone from the stand and raised a fist in salute to the crowd. "It's good to be back in Portland, Oregon!"

Shannon's heart leaped to her throat as Geoff strutted into a rollicking number. The tight black pants stretching across his muscled thighs and the buccaneer shirt unlaced down his chest attested to the fact this thirty-something rock star still had the body of an Adonis. With her breathing reduced to ragged gulps as Geoff danced across the stage, Shannon's mouth felt like cotton even though the palms of her hands were damp with sweat.

Geoff ended the song with a leap in the air, landing lightly in a crouch before bowing and standing up to cheers and thunderous applause. Shannon joined the rest of the audience in noisy approval. The band performed several more rousing numbers before disappearing in a puff of smoke.

After a short pause, Geoff came back on stage alone. He hitched a hip onto a stool as the women in the audience sighed. A single spotlight on Geoff threw all else into darkness. Geoff raised the mike to speak. "There's a very special lady in the audience tonight."

Shannon tensed.

"I've discovered over these last few months how much she means to me." Geoff looked directly to where she sat in the front row. "Shannon, I want to spend the rest of my life with you."
